Should I Return to a New Season of Heroes?

I’m ambivalent about watching another season of Heroes.

I’m ambivalent about watching another season of Heroes. I was unable to watch the season premiere  tonight due to being out for the evening.

The show had started with such promise. It was very exciting with often delightful turns and poignant or funny moments. Everything seemed possible with staggering twists that made this viewer believe any of the characters might die. But in the subsequent seasons, the show has become imaginative only in maintaining the status quo. Each season ends as it began, with the main characters trying to live ordinary lives, but inevitably drawn into the path of the Company or Sylar. It’s like they’re riding stationary bicycles beside those large drums with scenes painted on them. They just come around again and they go no where.  And there is no direction that I can discern.

And everything is too precious. It reminds me of my own writing woes: Something has to give, but you *love* this scene or this character or this subplot. It has to go for the sake of a good story. For tightness, for clarity, for credibility. I can’t follow the threads anymore. Who am I rooting for? What are they after? What does it all matter?

Still, the show has wonderful dynamics that are portrayed with such a superb cast. I would love to see more moments of innocence and  joy that is Hiro and Ando, and the compelling family drama of the Bennett family.

He-Man Questions

I noticed the YouTube now has full episodes of the He-Man cartoons. Takes me back when I had a number of the action figures and the Castle Greyskull playset. The castle was a great place for all the Marvel, GI Joe, Centurions and my other figures to fight in.

Looking now at an episode on YouTube, “Cosmic Comet,” I wonder:

  1. Why doesn’t Adam stay as He-Man? I don’t recall a reason why he needed to stop being “the most powerful man in the universe.”
  2. Also he says that only three of his friends know his secret: Orco, Man-At-Arms and Sorceress. But Adam and He-Man appear identical, except He-Man is comfortable with wearing only bearskin shorts and halter.
  3. Now Cringer and Battlecat look different. Which makes me wonder why Battlecat doesn’t threaten He-Man if he dares turn him back to Cringer.
  4. Does anyone in Eternia mistakenly put Orco in their hamper?

Thoughts anyone?

Being Human Eps. 6

So the werewolf is Jewish. His name is George and he had used his Star of David to repel some vampires who had wanted to kill off his vampire friend/roommate Mitchell.

I had missed the first and fifth episodes so I know I’m missing some plot points. I do like the characters, but with Annie the ghost, I have a problem. She is easy to like, but she doesn’t seem very ghost-like. She can go where she likes, change clothes, do the dishes, everyday activities. She interacts with the vampires and werewolves just fine, humans are more tricky. Can’t be seen or heard, but she can write as she had in a previous episode. Doesn’t seem so bad an after-life.

Episode 6 is the final episode of the short first season. I would like to see the series continue.

Being Human Eps. 3

Last night I remembered to watch another episode of the BBC America series, Being Human.

Last night I remembered to watch another episode of the BBC America series, Being Human. I did enjoy watching it and the werewolf is the most interesting one to me so far. A very nervous, unsure man trying to do the best for everyone else at the cost of his own happiness.

From what I can tell, the vampire can go out in the sunlight and the ghost for some reason can lift objects as any person could but when she touches someone, they don’t feel it.

Being Human

Flipping channels last night I had come across bits of a new show called Being Human on BBC America.

Flipping channels last night I had come across bits of a new show called Being Human on BBC America. The premise may seem like the set up of a joke: A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost share a flat … But actually I found it to be a charming story. Three damned individuals trying to hold onto their humanity. I think this was the second episode and I will try to catch the pilot and the third episode this week.
